What is a ductless mini-split?

A mini-split is a heat pump with two main parts: an outdoor unit, and one or more indoor units mounted on a wall or ceiling. They’re connected by a small line set that runs through a hole in the wall. Each indoor unit has its own controls, so you can heat or cool one room without changing the temperature in the rest of the house.

Installing a mini-split

We start by talking about the spaces you want to heat and cool, so the system is sized right. Too small and it can’t keep up, too big and it short-cycles and won’t control humidity well. Then we mount the indoor unit or units, set the outdoor unit, run the line set and drain, make the electrical connections, and test the system. We’ll show you how to use the remote and set it up for summer and winter. We install all major mini-split brands, and new systems we install come with a 1-year BMS labor warranty and a 10-year manufacturer parts warranty when the equipment is registered.

Keeping a mini-split running well

Mini-split filters sit right behind the front panel and clog faster than most people expect. Rinse or vacuum them every few weeks when the system is running a lot. Keep plants, snow and leaves away from the outdoor unit. A professional cleaning of the coils, blower wheel and drain helps prevent musty odors and leaks, and our maintenance plans start at $20 a month.
